An incident occurred on Koh Phangan involving a British citizen who was detained on suspicion of hitting a local doctor and then fleeing the scene. On the evening of May 23, Dr. Teerasuk "Ton" Kawamatawong was walking along the roadside near the district administration building when he was struck by a high-speed motorcycle. The motorcycle driver did not assist the injured person and fled. Witnesses found the victim and immediately took him to the hospital.
