Thailand Celebrates Visakha Bucha Day. Buddhists in Thailand are celebrating Visakha Bucha Day: morning ceremonies were held at temples in connection with this event, and evening processions with candles can be seen. The festival is dedicated to the birth, enlightenment, and passing into nirvana of the Buddha, which, according to Buddhist tradition, occurred on the full moon of the sixth month - on the same day, but in different years. This year, the sixth full moon fell on Sunday, May 31. In connection with this, Monday, June 1, will also be a non-working day (all government agencies will be closed), although the Visakha Bucha Day festival itself lasts only one day. Also, exactly for one day - May 31 - a ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages outside specially designated areas is in effect. In ordinary stores, alcohol is not sold. Exceptions to the dry law: ▫️Trading points in international airports, ▫️Licensed hotels and resort complexes, ▫️Licensed entertainment venues and equivalent places, ▫️Approved mass event venues. For Phuket, this means in practice the exclusion of hotels and part of the entertainment venues. The punishment provided by law for selling in defiance of the ban - up to 10,000 baht fine and/or up to six months in prison. On the last working day of May (May 29) in the Royal Gazette, a directive was published, converting the existing alcohol sales regime from temporary to permanent. No fundamental changes were made to the rules. Regular trading points can sell alcohol from 11:00 to 24:00, except on Buddhist holidays. Exemptions are listed above - there, sales can be made on Buddhist holidays and after 24:00 according to specific point of sale and location directives. @Kathu Police, @Patong Municipality
