Tourist Boat Catches Fire in Ao Makham Bay on Phuket's South Coast A speedboat operated by Love Andaman caught fire while moored in Ao Makham Bay on Phuket's south coast in the late afternoon of May 10. According to officials and the company itself, no one was injured in the blaze. The speedboat, named Juliet, was destroyed by the fire, but Love Andaman assured that the loss of the boat would not affect the scheduled tours on May 11. The fire in Ao Makham Bay started at 17:25, when the Juliet speedboat operated by Love Andaman was moored in the bay. The crew had completed their tours and disembarked at the time of the fire, so there was no one on board when the blaze started. Other nearby boats were absent. Extinguishing the Juliet took around 20 minutes, with rescue teams from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO) conducting the operation. However, as stated in the statement from PR Phuket, it was not possible to save the boat. "At the time of the fire extinguishing, only the fiberglass hull of the boat remained on the water. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the incident," the statement from PR Phuket reads. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The Vichit Police Station is investigating the incident, as the area falls within its jurisdiction. "Regarding the cause of the incident, the company is fully cooperating with the Vichit Police and forensic experts to determine the cause. Actual conclusions will be publicly announced following the investigation, and based on them, proactive security measures will be taken," Love Andaman said in a press release. The company's publication of statements itself is an example of the atypical openness for Phuket's tourism business. The fire on board Love Andaman's boat is at least the third incident in Ao Makham Bay since 2026 and at least the fourth on Phuket. ▫️On February 11 in Ao Makham Bay, the yacht Cognac 75 owned by Once Yachting sank [https://t.me/novostiphuketa/21301]. The cause of the incident has not yet been named. ▫️Several more fires on Phuket's tourist fleet occurred in 2025. The incident occurred in Chalong Bay, while the other took place on Racha Yai Island. In the latter case, several Russian tourists were injured, as confirmed by the consulate. However, the causes of the incidents remain unknown.
